Catastrophe at the United Food Bank

For over 30 years, the United Food Bank has been a pillar of the community, serving not only those in need throughout the East Valley but also into Eastern Arizona including Gila and Pinal, and Southern Navajo and Apache Counties.   In total, they serve over 19,608 square miles which includes some of the most remote areas in the state.  Last year, they served more than 21 million meals to hungry people throughout the region. 

Their President and CEO, Dave Richins, is a long-time friend and a great person.  He has been active throughout the community including serving on the Mesa City Council and helping with the formation of the West Mesa Community Development Corporation.

Disaster struck Monday when the United Food Bank’s main freezer’s compressor broke and nearly 22,000 pounds of food were lost.   The total cost to repair the freezer is estimated at $10,000 which would equal about 40,000 additional meals.
