Employee Benefits

Holidays

The State observes 10 paid holidays each year: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr./Civil Rights Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it will be observed on the preceding Friday or the following Monday, respectively.

Annual Leave

For the first three years, covered employees (positions subject to the Arizona State Merit System Rules) accrue annual leave (paid vacation) at the rate of eight hours per month, or 12 days per year. The rate of accrual will increase at various intervals to a maximum of 14 hours per month. All uncovered employees (positions not subject to the Arizona State Merit System Rules) accrue annual leave at the rate of fourteen hours per month, or 21 days per year.

Bereavement Leave

The State allows paid leave for up to 24 regularly scheduled work hours due to the death or funeral of any immediate family member. An additional 16 work hours is allowed if the employee travels out-of-state for the funeral.

Sick Leave

Sick leave is granted at the rate of eight hours per month, or 12 days per year. There is no restriction on the amount of accumulated sick leave.

Retirement

The State has an excellent retirement program. An annually adjusted percentage of an employee's gross wage is deducted and matched by the State as contributions to his/her retirement fund. In addition, State employees are covered by Social Security benefits.

Deferred Compensation (Optional)

This optional program provides an opportunity to supplement retirement income by setting aside a portion of current income and deferring payment of federal and state income taxes until the money is received, usually after retirement.

Health Insurance (Optional)

Eligible employees may choose coverage from an indemnity plan or a health maintenance organization (HMO) in most counties in the State. In either case, the State pays the major portion of the premiums for employees and dependents. The health insurance plans provide comprehensive medical coverage for nearly every medical need.

Dental Insurance (Optional)

Low-cost dental insurance is available to eligible employees and dependents. Subject to limitations, it provides basic and major dental services, including prosthetics and orthodontia.

Life and Disability

Basic life ($15,000) and long-term disability insurance are provided and paid for entirely by the State. Under the disability coverage employees may qualify for a benefit of up to two-thirds of your base wage.

Supplemental life insurance programs for employees and dependents are available at low group rates.

Others

Optional Short-Term Disability - Optional Supplemental Life Insurance - Optional Vision Service Plan - Employee Assistance Program - Credit Union Privileges - Discounts on Bus Service
